We love living upstate in the beautiful Adirondacks, but we also appreciate our relative proximity to the excitement of New York City. We find ourselves in the big city pretty regularly, to speak at journalism conferences (which Laura does every March), attend Bridal Fashion Week (in both April and October), and to pick up awards (we’ve actually won not one but two big national awards now–details soon to come).

A walk around the city offers plenty of bridal goodness, like this macaroon wedding cake in a display window on the Upper East Side, and beautifully decorated cupcakes that taste as good as they look.

    
Naturally, plenty of bridal loveliness can be found directly at International Bridal Fashion Week, which we’ve covered here: Fashion Week Part 1, Fashion Week Part 2, and Fashion Week Part 3.

Our adventures sometimes bring us to some pretty ritzy locations, such as The Plaza Hotel (famous for many things, including being the site of “Eloise at the Plaza”) and the atrium at Trump Tower on Madison Avenue.

Laura teaches university journalism, and while in New York City last month to speak at a national conference, visited several media outlets with some of her students, including Sports Illustrated at the Time & Life Building, O The Oprah Magazine at Hearst Tower, and Bon Appetit in the Conde Nast Building.

At night, the city is perhaps at its most spectacular. Here’s the view from the Presidential Suite at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square.

    

    
One of our favorite parts about the train ride home is all the awesome lighthouses on the Hudson. (They aren’t as special to us as the one on Valcour Island, featured in Adirondack Weddings Volume Three, naturally — but they are still pretty cool!)
